Harry Potter, Facebook, and Superglue?

After talking about Brendan with a couple of friends, who was studying madly for his driving test, this conversation came up...

Me: Where is he? He's like died or something!
A: He's studying madly for his driving test.
Me: Should we tell him that it's REALLY easy?
A: Nah, I'd like to see his reaction.

Naturally... I figured I ought to learn how to parallel park. You see, it will never be necessary to parallel park in Texas, but it will come in handy in Boston and other cities that are too cheap to make large parking lots for cars :0).

After my wild attempt to try something new a.k.a. parallel parking in the pouring rain (my car ended up unhurt and all), I decided to meet up with Karen and Michelle to go shopping at the mall. I'm not a leisurely shopper... I usually enter a store and come out with what I want in like 5 minutes, but then again, that is why I'm so talented.

After getting earrings (I must take the time out to desrcibe my fascination with the number two... I am in love with anything that comes in a pair... shoes, mittens, gloves, socks and yes, earrings), off we went to the Harry Potter book release party.

Going there, I knew that I would be a huge nerd... after all, who hangs out at a book store until 12:00 just to get a copy of a children's book... Anyway, I finally get there, and realize that half of my ex-high school was there dressed up as various different characters... (even saw my physics teacher there) and I felt like less of a nerd.

Later, I went home and went straight to bed.

Saturday morning rolls around and I finally get up at around 8-ish. I go to the clinic and get the second part of my Hepatitis B shot that somehow I made through high school without ANYONE noticing I didn't have... I don't know, maybe I'm just strong and have lots of antibodies and that can kick some Hepatitis B ass or something. Anyway, I went to go and take care of some of my banking issues so I can actually have access to a bank account when I head off to college. It doesn't mean that the numbers in the bank account will be positive, but we'll worry about that when we get there.

Then I headed off to guitar lessons... surprise surprise... I learned my first REAL song... it's actually "Imagine" and it sounds half-way decent!

Later that day, I went rummaging through old stuff and found *sigh* a couple of really nice blazers that can be readapted and worn as jackets in the nice and chilly Boston weather...

Then I went to the optometrist just to make sure that I am stil able to see. Supposedly my vision has gotten about 100 degrees worse or something like that in the past 3 years, which I guess isn't all that bad.

Then I went grocery shopping, bought some food, ate some dinner and just plain passed out.

Sunday started at around 7-ish, when I got up to prepare for my Chinese class because I got this ominous feeling that there would be a quiz. After going to the class and realizing that it was a false alarm... I went and got one of those massive Halliday and Resnick physics books that are on steroids and skimmed through it. I also got some pretty posterboard and super glue to decorate for a goals presentation.

Then, I took one of those ridiculously nice Sunday naps and woke up only to plan out some classes for next year's schedule... talked to a couple of friends and looked over the physics problems again. I continued to write a really cheesy thank you letter and did some more IM-ing and facebook stalking.

Finally, I decided to go for a run and then shower and sleep. Ah, the wonderful weekend is... well, GONE!

Crazy Weekend Fun

**************************** Friday******************************

My weekend literally started on Friday. I went through all of my English homework during physics class and answered all forty questions on Dubliners.

For lunch a couple of my friends and I from AP sciences went to one last lunch together at Rice Boxx. However, me being my usual picky self, I decided to get Qdoba's instead and met the group there. It was fun having actually walking to eat lunch instead of driving and being able to have a "profound" conversation about the World Cup with all of my friends.

Conversation Snippet:

O: There is no way that S. Korea will win the Cup this year. I'm going for the Spanish team. There's no one on the team that is really good.
Y: Yeah there is! That guy with the curly long hair! He's awesome!
Me: Which is like half the team, and half the team isn't "awesome!" Plus I'm totally going for the Brazilian team.
Y: Oh well, at least the really HOT guy is still playing! But I don't think he plays for the Cup anymore.
Me: You mean Beckham??? He STILL plays for the British team even though he got traded to Spain.
O: Spain bought him. I don't understand the concept of Europeans. They BUY people.
Me: Well, we TRADE people! Wait, if they buy people do you think that it goes into their GDP? If they added Beckham into England's GDP it'd be like 22 million more!

Then went to Target and bought "Tigerland." Watched it and liked it. Emily called and we tried hopelessly to hash out plans for the concert.

************************** Saturday****************************

Woke up 10 am and decided that I deserved to go shopping. I bought a whole bunch of food and proceeded to get home to eat lunch. I watched "The Punisher" and part of "Bourne Supremacy" before Callie finally called for the concert.

8:00- Went to Callie's and was introduced to her cats... All three of them.

8:15- Parked car at "Free Parking" and walked to Addison Circle.

8:30- Arrived at Taste Addison, bought tickets and proceeded to the Main Stage.

8:35- Caught the last two acts of Vertical Horizon.

8:55- Randomly walked around looking for food. Suddenly I saw a Sean Biggerstaff (Oliver Wood) look-alike in sunglasses. Poked Callie and this conversation began:

Me: He looks like Oliver Wood from HARRY POTTER.. he's so adoreable.
C: It's so funny how rock music and cotton candy can revert you back to a 6 y-o girl.
Me: That's not funny.
C: (SCREAMS) Hey guy in the yellow/orangish shirt. My friend thinks you look like the guy from Harry Potter.
Random Guy TURNS around and gives puzzled look...
C: She thinks you're HOT!
I bury my face in my hands...
Random guy starts cracking up, nods and leaves...

Later that night at the concert...

The same guy takes the stage and started pulling this amazing, AMAZING cover of Depeche Mode... How anyone can do a cover of Depeche Mode is beyond me, but he did it. Then the rest of the band appears and he's none other than than the electric guitarist for Smash mouth. Yeah, I guess I shot him down because I didn't know who he was and then complimented him because I said he was hot. Who knows?

9:30- Official Concert begins. Met a really cool couple who stood in front of us. The woman admitted that she tries to be cool, however, she *thinks she's old because she jams to the Beatles and is 52. Me being a pretty BIG fan of the Beatles assured her that the Beatles are amazing and EVERYONE loves them. Hell, I'm in love with Lovin' Spoonful. Her husband then says, "Look at them, in their hip-huggers little shirts, flip-flops, and small bags... AND they love the Beatles... We don't feel so old anymore!"

11:15- Concert Ends. Got a pizza for $5.

11:45- Went on a couple of rides for FREE. The people at the carnival were so nice!

1:30- Went to Callie's.

2:00- Got home!

************************ Sunday ****************************

Slept in most of the day. Went to Chinese school and filled out a couple of scholarship apps. Got a call-back from Raytheon, so I'll be working for a defense contractor for the summer. I also got a Panhellenic Scholarship and watched Grey's Anatomy.

My Brain Shuts Down TODAY!

I'm done with all of my AP exams and since I don't have to take finals... My brain has already turned off and the rest of the summer will be one huge party before I head off to college.

So in conclusion...

Turned in like 25 pages worth of Calculus BC work... and tried to forget that Calculus was an integral part of school-work.

Hung out with Becky and Danny and listened to him play harmonica... I had no idea that harmonica was so freaking difficult and you needed so many harmonicas for each key!

Signed a million year-books...

Had Asian Club elections today. It was kinda sad giving up my position, but we'll be throwing a huge paty soon and I think it'll be "New Officers treat Old Officers" so Preston will have to buy me dinner!

I went out to Spring Creek today and had awesome ribs... I guess I'm not vegetarian!

Got four brand new books: Candide, Classical Russian Short Stories, War and Peace, and a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court.

Finished Scholarship Apps!!!

Six Exams Down, One to GO!

I finished my AP American Government and Politics Exams today and ended up writing four essays in an hour and forty minutes. Not that it was too difficult because most of it was transferred directly from my brain onto the paper, but my hand did start cramping up and my pen did start running out of ink.

I took my BC Calculus Exam last Tuesday and had no idea how to work with polar equations on my TI-83 calculator, English last Thursday (which I did well on because I had to analyze Blake poems... what intelligent individual chooses BLAKE poems for you to analyze on a test if they're supposed to "suprise" you???), Biology and Physics (failed Physics electromagnetism) on Monday, and Psychology Tuesday (which I did okay on). I'll take care of that silly Macro-Econ test tomorrow. Shouldn't be too hard for a prospective Economics major :o).

Caltech Day 2

9:30 am- Met up with Todd, Ben, and Sarah and went to a SURF (internship) meeting, ate some breakfast.

10:30 am- Went on a tour of the Mechanical Engineering Building, hung out with some professor that had really awesome jellyfish robots.

12:00 pm- Had lunch with some Caltech alums that were in town.

1:30 pm- Went on our own tours of the dorms, hung out a bit and waded through the “Gene Pool.”

2:00 pm- Sat in a really awesome Cognitive Science class with a professor that wore YELLOW shoes and a really bright rainbow shirt. Saw two guys trickle in kinda late, but pretty awesome.

5:00 pm- Went to Ruddock Hovse Dinner with all those super awesome people I met. Watched those Ruddock Boys take out the Blacker Boys in a game of intramural soccer. Pretty Awesome!

6:00 pm- Ruddock Hovse Dinner… Got to sit next to Matt the President of the Hovse and stand up to introduce myself. Didn’t really know that it was such an honor until the people started throwing chunks of bread at him! Since Caltech boys aren’t known for their athleticism, chunks of bread that went astray hit me and I threw them right back! It’s scary how much bread hurts when you get hit in the head with it!

7:00 pm- Played a Volleyball Game… Our team won!

10:00 pm- Played Mafia… I was Mafia three times in a row and they all got suspicious of me and I escaped the first time and hanged in the town square the other two times because I had a “goofy laugh.”

11:00 pm- Went to Avery Dance Party… Had three people dancing so I mixed a couple drinks and went to the hockey game because the party was really a non-party!

1:00 am- Went to Hockey at Dabney Hovse and got a tour of their secret passageways… Went on the roof and climbed around.

2:30 am- Went to Blacker Hovse for their demolition party… You know, angry guys, axes and fire with expensive but faulty lab equipment???

3:30 am- Went back to dorm talked with hostess and slept!
